This is the letter I wrote to TV Guide. It was printed in the September 4th issue. They did edit it a little but I hope it got the message across.

Television drama has reached an all time low with the series finale of "Queer As Folk." After five long years the writers set us up for the wedding of the golden couple, Brian and Justin. Half way through the episode they pull the rug out from under the audience and with no reasonable explanation Justin literally disappears and Brian reverts to his party boy life style in a blink of an eye. This finale was meant to be shocking, but I feel it was cruel joke. If the writers had only been more sensitive to the audience "Queer As Folk" could have been more than just a soap with gay sex. It's a shame that Showtime and the producers never saw the potential for a really ground breaking love story with the first believable gay super couple. I am sorry now that I ever watched this disappointing series. |
